TKoE:TGN:
The Kingdom of Ernor: The Graphic Novel is a story that my brother and I have been working on for a few years (TKoE started as a philosophical idea ~2006, and evolved into a story by mid 2007). It was previously released as a web-comic (very much the same way it is being released now) but I took it down due to quality concerns. The one thing we want more than anything else is the story to be told correctly, and my quality of work as an artist just didn’t cut it. My work has ameliorated a great deal, and though I still have plenty of room for improvement, the story is simply too long to continue to wait for my improvement. As it stands, the story is divided into 5 large volumes, each well over 100 pages, so you can expect new pages for a very long time.
An additional note on the story:
This isn’t a typical web-comic, in that we had the entire story almost 100% complete before we started releasing the pages (feel free to NOT give script suggestions, the story is done) and the pages are not meant to stand alone as “comic-strips”, most pages probably won’t make any sense when viewed alone.
Additional information, that will hopefully cover some FAQ:
- I, Braden, am the sole illustrator for TKoE:TGN.
- Each page is drawn in Adobe Photoshop (currently using CS4) at a resolution of 4200×3300.
- Some pages contain 3D models, Devin is the sole model master.
- 3D models are made in 3DStudioMax and/or Zbrush.
- I’m using a Wacom Cintiq 21UX (and loving it).
- TKoE:TGN will always be free to view on this site, even if/when printed volumes are released.
Sharing TKoE:TGN/Our philosophy on Copyright:
This is a real world example (this actually happened) of why copyright law is important to us:
When Devin created a comprehensive Starcraft: 2 guide, Devin was emailed by someone who wanted to purchase it from him to use it in package on the subject, to sell for profit (or give Devin a cut of the profit). Devin essentially told him, “I’m already giving it away for free, and intend to keep doing so, so that wouldn’t be right to make people pay to download it; no thanks.” The fellow decided to use Devin’s guide anyway, attempting to profit from Devin’s work, which was meant to be given away for free. It wasn’t until a legal threat came into the picture that the guide was removed.
We want people to share the things we make and tell everyone about it, and do all kinds of stuff, whatever people typically want to do. The problem is crazy people who would try to do things like take every single page and upload them to another site. We’re providing the whole thing here for free already, so there’s no point in doing that, unless that person is specifically trying to redirect viewership in some way, or just profit off of our work, which would make that person an asshole. If you want to post a page or two on your own site/facebook/twitter/[anything] for critical review, or just to show it to people; we support you in that 100% (we would appreciate it, even if you just want to say that it sucks ♥). Even if you want to cut up or edit some of our work in some way, or reproduce it somehow: that would be awesome if my work inspired people in any way whatsoever. Just please reference the source when you do that kind of thing, other people would like you more for it anyway.
Sharing all kinds of things is how the internet is supposed to work. The problem is only when people make themselves assholes by trying to pass off other people’s work as their own. And when people are assholes we need the ability to actually do something about it, which is why we’re NOT under a creative-commons license, all rights are reserved.
TL;DR: As a creator of things, I have the right to give those things away for free. If some asshole decides to try and profit off of my creations, when those things were already free to begin with, copyright is what allows me to stop him from being such an asshole. If you aren’t trying to be an asshole, you probably don’t have anything to worry about in sharing our work (just please let people know where you got it ☺).
CURRENT NEWS (FEB, 2011):
Finally rebooting the series!

CURRENT UPDATE SCHEDULE:
Experience tells me I work best without a fixed schedule. That said, you can expect about 1 page per week. This is subject to change (I might come up with some kind of schedule).
This news section won’t be updated frequently, but anything regarding a change in the update schedule will be mentioned here. Other site changes will also occur at some point, probably the addition of an archive, but no specific schedule on that at the moment.
Being the novice artist that I am, I haven’t settled on a single style and I’m still trying new techniques. This means I may try a new method that doesn’t come out the way I want, and I’ll decide to start over or make drastic changes to a page, delaying its release. For this and other reasons, pages will occasionally be delayed, but even if there is a delay, I will be releasing a page whenever possible, unless otherwise noted here in the news section.
